Thankful Thursday ~ His Protection

In the month of September the Thankful Thursday community is meeting here at Grace Alone…; my friend Lynn at Spiritually Unequal Marriage will be hosting in October; and my friend Laurie at Women Taking a Stand will be hosting our weekly meme in November.

“Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
for his steadfast love endures forever!”
~ 1 Chronicles 16:34 (ESV)

I never have seen an angel, but I believe that God sends them to protect us (Psalm 91:11-12). Once again, it became very evident this past week while driving to work. I am not sure how it is in the area you live in, but here, people do anything but driving. Seriously, people are eating, reading books/maps, shave, put on ‘the face’, text-message, their mind is far from driving. On Tuesday, several times I had to slam the breaks because someone was pulling in front of me. Goodness, I wish people would have their mind on the tasks they are performing (like driving).

Every morning before I get into the car I walk around it, praying for His protection. It may sound silly to you, but it gives me the peace I need to get into the vehicle. Every day I am thankful that He hears my little prayer and answers it.

What are you thankful for this week? Please do share by leaving the link to your thankful post below.

Thank you for stopping by today. Remember: He is guarding your ways, even if do not see it…

  1. Wow Iris,

Do I RELATE to this post. It’s timely for me as well. I’m praise the Lord for the privilege we have to bring our lives before our King and the peace our prayers bring. BIG hugs and Happy TT.

  2. Wonderful TT post, Iris!

It is a great idea to pray for protection before getting in your vehicle. As a child I remember my Dad always saying a prayer for safety before we left on a vacation.

  3. I had an incident a few weeks ago when someone came within inches of slamming into the side of my car as they sped through a red light at an intersection. I am still praising God for the angels of protection I know He sent that day!

  4. Iris, I am so thankful for His protection as well. Many times I have come to realize just how He slowed me down or delayed me only to find out if I had not been delayed, I could have easily been involved in a accident up the road. Thanks for hosting this month!

  5. Quite often I find myself praying for His protection. Indeed, each time the kids and I stepped outside today I did. We have horrible EEE carrying mosquitoes in our area. Two local people have already contracted the virus this summer despite air-spraying by the state. I hate to keep the kids inside, held “hostage” by mosquitoes, so I spray them – praying God will protect them from the chemicals – and then, step outside, praying God will keep the bugs at bay – especially from our youngest (and infant too young for spray who I only take out of his netted seat when he is crying for me or nursing). Then, when the occasional bite happens anyway,I pray that it was a from a “clean” mosquito and, that, if not, God will give us all strength and guidance dealing with the outcome…Truly, I know God protects in all situations. And, I know my children are ultimately his. I just pray for as long as a chance at stewardship as I can have. So, bring on the angels to brush all those nasty biters away!

  6. Iris, I cannot tell you the times I have seen God’s hand of protection for me and our family when we were traveling. Thank you for allowing me to share on TT,and for you hosting.
    Blessings,
    Sue

  7. I am thankful that God sent His angels to protect you while driving this week! I don’t think walking around your car and praying is silly at all! God loves our prayers offered up in anyway! Thank you for sharing today!

So thankful and praising His name, Joan

  8. I often pray before starting out in the car. I have seen many times God’s protection, through a delay here, or something that frustrated me, but kept me from being involved in a serious car accident! I know that His Hand of protection is over me. Thank you for this reminder, Iris.
    Blessings,
    Wendy

  9. Iris, each one of us has different areas in our lives where we suffer from fear. Remember our Living Fearlessly in 2010? Well, it sounds like you are. Way to go God. And way to go Iris …for trusting Him more and more.

    Love you,
    Debbie

  10. My first time here, Grace. Was reading your about me really quick, but have to come back another time, it\’s 4:25am in CA. I found you through another blog, and enjoy the reads about your life. Thanks for hosting the meme.

  11. I am also thankful for my guardian angels.
This is my first time posting here for Thankful Thursdays. Hope you enjoy my post and I look forward to returning every Thursday!
    Blessings!

  12. I just posted about protection as well. My mom could have been killed yesterday, but thank the Lord he was watching over her and her friend. The situation turned out great considering what could have happened.

  13. Sounds like you drive in my neck of the woods. Just this morning they said on the news our city is #171 on the list of (un)safe drivers (obviously we’re VEEERY low on the list!). I’m with you – pray, pray, pray for protection.

Thanks for hosting this month. Have a blessed day.

  14. On the way to church last night I almost witnessed a college girl getting hit by a car. Luckily she was able to move out of the way in time, the guy driving the car drove through a red light. I totally understand about praying for protections. No matter if you are walking or driving.

Have a great rest of the week.

  15. I am also thankful for guardian angels. I have a dear friend who once told me when she was younger she would see angels on top of vehicles driving around town. She would ask her mom, “Mom, do you see that?” Her mom had no clue what she was talking about… But when I get in my vehicle I’d like to imagine that one is on my car 😉

    Blessings,
    Misty

  16. I am joining you this week. Not sure if how I did it is right. =)

Love your post though and don’t think it is silly walking around your car to pray for protection.
I am always praying for protection of my husband when he leaves for work and to watch over him throughout the day.
    Great post!

  17. Not silly at all! One of the first things I learned as a new Christian from the Godly women around me, was to pray before driving anywhere! I wish I could say I still do that everytime I get in the vehicle. I get in such a hury. It’s something we need to do everytime again. Driving is sooo dangerous in this day and age, and I know there are several times that God has sent His angels to protect us. I’m thankful that He is faithful, even when I’m not! Blessings to you!

  18. i also thank God for His protection over my life when i go to work. so many reported accidents have been due to drivers texting while driving. even here in the philippines, we have a lot of those too. thank God for His divine protection over our lives.

  19. I too had to slam on breaks several times this week. One quick breaking was so close I could have introduced myself to the driver! I felt my guardian angels were standing in between us protecting my son and myself. So I can relate to this post. Texting is now against the law here.
