Thankful Thursday ~ Rest

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” ~ Matthew 11:28-30 (ESVemphasis mine)

Did you knew that one of the definition of rest is “peace of mind or spirit”? Really, I didn’t make this up – you can check it our yourself at Webster 😛 …Are you rested today? Have you spent time with Him lately? Believe me – if I don’t spend time with Him in His Word or prayer, I get restless. Too many things flood my mind…So, today, I am thankful for rest for body, spirit and soul…

  • Lord – thank you for preserving your Word for us to find rest. You always refresh us. You are a place for peace…
  • Lord – thank You for giving me rest about our son. I know that You are watching over him…
  • Lord – I am thankful for musicians like Jadon Lavik. Lord You know how much I love praise music. It makes my workday easier – I can rest knowing You are right there with me…
  • Lord – thank You for giving me rest about my job. I am almost caught up with the old (2007) stuff and can look ahead to the next fiscal year…
  • Lord – thank You for giving me rest about Laced with Grace. Thank you for blessing the women that blog about You…
  • Lord – thank You for my beloved who knows just the right way for me to rest. Thank You for the wonderful world You have created around us. I just love taken photos of Your creations…

I have mentioned Jadon Lavik above; if you have time check out his music over at his blog. I really enjoy his ‘remake’ of ‘Come Thou Found’. It is wonderful to set old favorite hymns to modern music. I know that I will download his entire album “Roots Run Deep” tonight for my MP3 Player at Mugs of Truth – Music 😛 …

Sorry that my thankful post got a little long today. I just love to share the music I totally enjoy. So what are you thankful for today? Care to share? I would love you to. Please leave your link below…

Thank you for stopping by today. May our precious Lord give you rest so can skip through the day with praise on your lips…

  2. Oh yeah rest… I hope to get that tonight. Been working on graveyards again and there’s just lots of activities in the office for the past couple of nights. Hope tonight I’ll get a break.

Haven’t heard of the artist you mentioned but I’m checking him now. Thanks.

  3. Amen Iris. With all the running I’ve done for the wedding, I’ve climbed up in His lap throughout the day to rest with Him. Excellent post. Thank you so much for reminding us! Blessings on your day.

  4. After rest in his Love, we can walk full of strength and love!
The Lord knows what time we need to walk, what time we need to rest! He knows us more than ourselves. May the true peace from our heavenly father be given to you every single day!

  5. Oh Iris,

Just a beautiful post as always. Peace of mind…. Girl, today, this very morning, I spent significant time in prayer. What a wonderful day indeed.

I am going to check out the music link. Thank you.

Always, thank you for hosting this special praise to our Father.

  6. WHEW! What a day! Glad so glad you chose rest! JUST what I NEEDED!
Happy Secretaries to all precious Secretaries….Admistrative Assistants! We tried to imagine today what it would have been like at the law office if all of us just “called in sick”….as a joke….well, it wouldn’t have been pretty. Nor restful!
You chose just what I need to concentrate on—-for the next few weeks…that and getting closer to the LORD.
    I love you girl!

  7. Thank you for this timely reminder of our rest in God daily. How I love this verse! I am thankful that we can find our rest in Him in the midst of the busyness of every day and all the ups and downs we go through.

Thank you too for sharing your thankful list with us. Thank God for His goodness to you. Have a blessed day!

  8. What a great TT list!! I find that when I don’t spend time with HIM, I can’t rest in any other area of my life. Thank you for sharing your heart!!

  9. Hi Iris,

Yes, rest…I’m finally going to get some tonight! In the natural and spiritual as well. God is always drawing us aside to spend time with Him. That is the only true rest we can have.

Great word, and as always so timely for us. I pray you have a wonderful weekend ahead and you continue to enjoy HIS presence.

    Blessings to you?

  10. Thank you Iris for your post. I have almost been in tears for lack of rest. But it is a comfort to know that even if my physical body does not get enough rest, my spirit man (woman) can always find rest in the Lord.

I will post my TT later, when blogger quits messing up.

    God bless you.

  11. The Holy Spirit guides us when we least expect it, Iris! I just finished my post without reading yours for a theme (which I never do btw) and low and behold, it fit right in. You gotta love a God who takes care of the details for you.

Thanks, Iris, for your sweet spirit. Have a great day.

  12. Your list is always inspiring me! Thank you for the reminder to find rest, I get so caught up in the everyday I forget to do that….

  13. Iris, your TT is the reminder I need today! I am clearing my calendar this morning to rest in Him. Iris, LWG and you are such a blessing.

  14. Iris, I love the theme of your post today. God has been teaching me about rest in many ways over the past year. But each reminder is afresh!

    Blessings,
    Elisa

  15. Thank you Iris for hosting TT. I have almost wept from lack of rest this week. It is encouraging to know that even if my physical body does not get enough rest, my spirit man (Woman) can always rest in the goodness of the Lord.

  16. I love “Come Thou Fount”!!! It is now on my playlist!
Please pray for rest for my husband, he is in desperate need of rest and peace.

  17. The Lord is really sending messages from many sources this week to me about Rest! I better take heed! Thank you for your wonderful post, and for the opportunity to link. My post today is lengthy…there was much to tell…hope that is ok.

I LOVE Jadon Lavik! Looking forward to checking out his blog when time permits. Thanks for sharing that link!

    Blessings,
    Tracy

  18. Thank you, Iris for the word REST. It spoke to my need to rest in Him. My heart is heavy right now, but He wants me to place the burden upon Him. Thank you so much dear friend.

  19. Whew! I think I need that “rest reminder”, too. I was up way too late worrying about something I have NO control over. So, thanks for sharing, Iris!

BTW, I checked out the site you mentioned because I love that hymn…it is one of my favorites and I enjoy hearing other arrangements of it!

  20. Thanks for the link to Mugs of Truth. I went and checked out the guy you were talking about. Love his songs. I will probably go back later and buy a few.
Funny–I posted along the same lines today—Rest.
Funny how we know we can’t get by without it in the physical-but we sometimes think we can get by without it in the spiritual.
    Still learning. 🙂

  21. Iris, I cried when I read your TT post (still wiping tears away here). Yesterday was one of “those” days, I knew I needed to get my spirit to that place of rest. I begged God to help me rest in Him. Today is a new day and I can say I am fully “resting” and SOOOOO thankful….. AND SO BLESSED to read your post which confirms the lesson God had for me. Thank you!

  22. Thanks for sharing about the rest we can find in Christ, I too am so thankful of that. It is amazing that in the midst of a crazy day and life we can find rest in Christ!

Mine is up now, a little late today as I had a fun day out with a girlfriend!

  23. Ah, yes, rest – what a wonderful gift the Lord gives us! It is such a blessing to rest in the arms of the Lord and trust Him with all of those things that threaten to undo us. I always feel such wonderful relief when I actually remember to rest, rather than worry – I wish I would remember more often! Thank you for your needed reminder!

    Blessings!

  24. Rest is a great thing to be thankful for. Thank you for that reminder. I am looking forward to time with my fa mily this weekend, enjoying each others company and being together.

I will have to listen to the music you recommend. The name sounds so familliar.

    God bless you!

  25. I didn’t get to get on yesterday, but I posted a Thankful Thursday on Friday this week. I am just getting started, but I wanted to add my thankfulness anyway. Just a little late. Looking forward to meeting some of you.

Thanks for understanding about Thankfulness from Thursday on Friday!! LOL!!

  26. I know what you mean about appreciating praise music. There is such a wonderful variety out there – many talented artists serving the Lord through music.
