Thankful Thursday ~ Gentleness

“You have given me the shield of your salvation, and your right hand supported me, and your gentleness made me great. You gave a wide place for my steps under me, and my feet did not slip. I pursued my enemies and overtook them, and did not turn back till they were consumed. ~ Psalm 18:35-37 (emphasis mine)

Have you ever realized how gentle our Lord is with us? Over the last couple of weeks He has reminded me gently that He is in control of the universe (and my life). Sometimes I just see only the things right before me; I don’t see the big picture. David always found the right words to praise our Lord. If you have not read Psalm 18 in its entirety, I encourage you to put it on your reading schedule…

So this week, I am thankful for gentleness; not only the gentleness of my Lord and Savior, but also the gentleness from the people around me…

  • Thank You Lord for Your incredible gentleness. Although I sometimes see only the issues in front of me, You always find a way to remind me that there is a bigger picture. I might not understand it now, but I know that I can trust You…
  • Thank You Lord for sending Your Son to redeem us. He showed us what gentleness means. How to react to even rude people…
  • Thank You Lord for placing a husband by my side who is so gentle. Not only in his actions toward me, but also his words calm my spirit…
  • Thank You Lord for the gentle reminder to digg deep into Psalms – my comfort ‘food’. I am so thrilled about Beth Moore’s study on the Psalms…
  • Thank You Lord for the friends in my life, who are loving, but also gently point me back in the right direction…
  • Thank You Lord for the gentle breezes in the afternoon, which helps cool down the air at night…
  • And Lord, this week I am especially thankful for Lynn, who has a gentle spirit and is a great prayer warrior. Lord, thank You for crossing our paths two years ago. I am blessed by her presence in my life…

What are you thankful for this week? Would you like to share with us? Just leave your link below (make sure it goes to your blog or Thankful Thursday post)…

Thank you for stopping by today and remember: Praise the Lord in your current storm (no matter how hard it might be) – David did – and I choose to do the same…

  7. Oh I needed this reminder about gentleness. When I have a lot going one (like I do right now) I tend to come across rather strong rather than being controlled by gentleness and meekness (power under control). I am going to write this word on index cards and tape them strategically around my home and other places.

  8. How badly I needed a dose of thanksgiving and praise this morning. It was just wonderful to share this day with others, and to take part in it as well. Thank you for hosting -such a beautifully simple site-love all the hearts!
    Chris

  13. Iris could you e-mail me? I hunted on here for your e-mail addy but I must be overlooking it. I wanted to let you know that you have just won one of the Driven by Eternity sets in my giveaway!!! I’m so excited for you! Can’t wait to hear from you. Big hugs!

  14. I agree with the friends who help point me back in the right direction. I am thankful to you for hosting TT and for the reminders I get out of your posts!

    Have a great week!

  15. God’s gentleness is truly a blessing in my life. I tend to be harsh with myself and it has been such a refreshment when He deals with me in such a gentle way – it feels like love pouring through my soul – even when it’s for the purpose of instruction or discipline. Thanks for the reminder of His loving gentleness!

    Blessings,
    Nancy

  16. I, too, am thankful that God is gentle with us. He gently pushes and nudges us and He is patient when we take our time or “just don’t get it”.

I like this picture of God being gentle. I think I’ll be pondering today about the full extent of what that means. Thank you!

  17. Bless you IRIS for THANKFUL THURSDAY! This is my FAVORITE favorite! You are such a gentle, loving and thankful heart and spirit so sensitive to the Lord! Your posts and list of thankfulness always makes me reflect on what the Lord is doing in my life…this time with the GENTLENESS of the Lord, you have again pricked my heart…or in your words STING MY HEART with the truth of His Word and character.

Though I appreciate your entire list, the one that has struck me the most was the reminder of how Our Lord sent His Son to redeem us, and aMazingly though people treated Him rudely, He was steadfastly gentle…(Pro 15:1 NASB) A gentle answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger. Since the Passion of Christ movie, we have vivid images of that horrendous rudeness…and Christ’s overwhelming compassion and gentleness in response. This convicts me more for Lynn’s Water Experiment challenge “to watch our words” and not cause a ripple effect. Bless you for your attentiveness to the Lord and those around you that exemplify HIS Gentleness. I cannot say that I have had that fortune, except now thru “blogging” friends and a few church friends from back home. I am so much more aware of our society and present age, where it seems that the beautiful quality of gentleness is forgotten. I saw it back when I was teaching how children
were more and more harsh and rude to each other and even adults…I pray that
Jesus has touched these lives and shown them how to be GENTLE! Thank you!
