Thankful Thursday ~ Prayer Works

Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
(Philippians 4:5-7 ESV)

My friend Lori at Lori’s Reflections, posted a great article about prayer. I have to say that sometimes I get discouraged when I pray. Do I pray like I really mean it? Are there days were I just go through the motions of prayer? Maybe sometimes my heart is not believing what my head is saying? Have you been there?

I know, I am throwing a lot of questions at you. I do know though deep in my heart that God answers our prayers. Sometimes it takes longer, or God even says no. Where I find comfort in though is that God knows the big picture. And if a prayer is not answered the way we hoped for, it may be better for us in the long run.

I do have to share with you about a prayer I prayed on Monday. It still gives me the goose-bumps just thinking about it. I have shared with you about my portrait business more than once. On Monday I asked God for two wedding photo opportunities for this year and thanked Him for it. I kid you not, about 20 minutes after I prayed the prayer, I had a request for a wedding on my inbox. I will meet the potential client on Friday afternoon. Will the client book me for her wedding? I do not know, but it gives me at least the opportunity to present my business 🙂 .

I am nervous about the appointment, but I am also confident because my God will be by my side. And with God at my side, I will step courageously out of my comfort zone. Even if this does not turn into a wedding shoot for my business, I am very thankful for the opportunity God is giving me.

Thankful Thursday ~ Relationships

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
(Philippians 2:3-4 ESV)

I have learned over last year that a good relationships starts with God and me. You can say that the words of Paul in Philippians 2:3-4 have become my theme. If I put the needs of others before my own, good relationships can become great.

I also have learned that without God’s help, I am a weak friend. If I try to put others first, but grumble about it, it does me no good. I have to see everything and every relationship through God’s eyes.

I am very thankful this week that God has been very patient with me teaching me the need to stay close to His Word and how to create great relationships.

Lord of Heaven and Earth. Thank You for Your guidance with all my relationships, especially the one with You. Lord, if I don’t put my own interests first, I can see people through Your eyes. I continue to look to You to develop great relationships with the people that I come in contact with. In the precious name of Jesus ~ Amen

Thankful Thursday ~ His Strength

I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
(Philippians 4:13 ESV)

Philippians 4:13 is my life verse; I hold on to it on a daily bases. I know that all of us have times where nothing seems to go right. Life gives you lemons…But I know that God is with me every step of the way.

I often wonder how I was able to go through life without God by my side. Yes, there were years in my life where I thought I didn’t need God. But the truth is that I was not okay without Him.

I was hoping that life would slow down a little once our son finished school; had his one life. I guess, life really never slows down and there are always small and big battles to be fought. Thank God, He is fighting with and for me.

Philippians 4_13There are some current situations in my life that I am unable to control (my husband’s and sister’s sickness). I am hanging on to my life verse these days. The artwork on the photograph is on my desk at work. It is right in front of me so that I can see it all day long. I am thankful that He gives me His strength.

Being Content

“Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” ~ Philippians 4:11-13 (ESV)
