To be perfectly honest with you, I do not like Arizona. Yes, I have been living here for the past 20 years, but I still don’t enjoy the summers. You see, I grew up by the sea and you cannot take the salt water out of my veins…

There is one particular place though that I continue to go back to: the Superstition Mountains. I have photographed the mountain range several times, but every time they look different.

I really cannot explain why this mountain draws me so often. It may has to do with God. Every time I see the mountain (actually every day), I am reminded of God – the SOLID rock in my life. No matter where my path takes me, I can count on God. He is the true constant in my life.

To some, a mountain can be something daunting, but for me it is sheer beauty. Massive, unmovable, solid, beautiful…just like our God.

I know that most of you enjoy the summer, because you live in cooler climate. I tell, you body is not made for the desert. I grew up (and lived there until I was 30), in a climate that has cool summers and mild winters (not much snow).

Seriously, you would not like to be around me in the months of July and August; I get a little grumpy by the end of August. Although I drink much water, I am still exhausted when I get home from work. By the time weekend rolls around, there is not much I like to do but ‘veg-out’.

The temperatures have dropped to the low 100′s (even already had some 90′s). The best thing is that it dried out enough that we have been running our swamp cooler since last week – YEAH! Double thanks on that one: 1) the house cools better than A/C, 2) our check book is cheering too . AND due to the cooler weather, I had enough energy to clean our living room from top to bottom.

The first bookmark has Matthew 5:16 over a lamp I photographed at the Superstition Mountain Museum. The museum displays items from an old movie studio called “Apacheland”; great place for photographers …

The second bookmark’s photo is from our Salt River area, located in the Tonto National Forest. We had a lot of rain this past spring, so the river actually had water flowing – ha…I thought that Matthew 11:28 works well with the peaceful photo…

We took a little road-trip down to Bisbee, Southern Arizona. It is always nice to find cool stuff to take photos off. Bisbee is just the right town to find old with the new. I thought this metal lamp in a little part outside the Mining Museum is fitting for the week’s hunt theme.
