Mrs. Wobble Head

“When life whacks you so hard your head flies off,
sew it back on and keep going.”
~ Mary Pierce ~

When I saw Mary Pierce’s quote this past Friday on CWO, I had to laugh. I thought to myself: ‘What in the world can you write about?’ But than came Monday. And I sure had one of those ‘discombobulating’ days. You know those days, don’t you? The days when you don’t know if you are coming or going. It was just one of those Mondays, you know!

I had a long day in the office; it was hot and muggy outside. I did have dinner plans in my head since lunch time (confirmed it with my Sweetheart – got green lights)…Starting at 3pm, I was drained. I could not put one thought together. Okay, so take a little break, get a Frappo, get a little bag of M&M’s. Checking my wallet, I only had 50cents left. Yikes! M&M’s are 70cents. So, no M&M’s for me! The last hour at work felt like 10. Finally made it out of the office at 4:20pm!!! Stopped at the store, got dinner, went home.
I was hoping that the dishwasher was emptied by our son, since he is not working full-time (yet). He had plenty of time to lend a hand to his old, exhausted mother. Oh, how wrong I was! Not only was the dishwasher not emptied, he didn’t even lend me a hand with the groceries. Ice-bag broke, ice-cubes flying all over the kitchen floor, and he just stood there and looked at me…Humph…There I stood, close to tears and Mr. Smarty-pants makes ‘funny remarks’…The only thing he put in the fridge were ‘his’ ice-cream bars. I did the rest; put away the the groceries, picked-up the ice-cubs from the floor, emptied out the dish-washer, got the mail…Not going well. All I wanted was relax a few minutes before starting dinner! My head was pretty wobbly (not flying off yet though)…

Than a small little voice whispered:”Think about all those women who have a lot more to do than you! Who do not have a loving husband to come home to? The women who don’t have a roof over their head? The women who don’t have enough money to put the next meal on the table, because they are raising their children on their own?” I have to say, I felt guilty about the little petty things I was whining about! I breathed a silent prayer to thank my Heavenly Father, sat down to read my evening devotion and off I went to make dinner; with a much lighter heart.

So, ‘when life whacks you so hard your head flies off, sew it back on and keep going.’

  1. Right on sister!! I found myself a little grumbly today with all my housework, and then I saw a commercial for the children’s hospital and immediately got some perspective. How wonderful that my son is healthy, tearing up the house and making a mess. How wonderful that we were healthy enough to go to camp and make life-long memories. Bring on the laundry – tons of happiness is behind all that dirt. 🙂

  2. I have been practicing alot lately on keeping the whining to a minimum and so far it is pretty even!! Wonderful posting that I can so easily relate too! Except the working part!! Have a great day, hopefully better than yesterday!

  3. So very true! There are so many things in each of our lives to be greatful for, we just sometimes like to overlook them!

    How have you been, btw-
    Heather

  4. With your wacky graphics here, I’d think you’ know exactly what to say about rag dolls and lost heads! Good reminder to be grateful in everyday trials! I needed that.

  5. Iris,
How refreshing, kinda makes me think about how thankful I am (or should be). I needed this reminder today too! Blessings to you!

  6. I’ve had days like those too. I can understand the feeling you had, God is telling me the same thing, focus on what you do have, not what you don’t. Great take on the quote.

    Love ya,

  7. I love the term “discombobulating” it’s a great word to use on those days when your head is dangling from a thread. Did you pelt your son with the ice? It could have relieved a bit of stress.

  8. Yes we should all be praising God we have those sons/daughters/spouses that doesn’t help when we need it….we could be wishing they were still with us! Very eye-opening! Thank you!

    Love you sight btw!

  9. I’ve had those kind of days before. It is hard to keep your head on straight and not erupt all over everybody. The Holy Spirit has to work full time to keep me in check some days. But, like you, I know people that have a much harder row to hoe and I know God knows what I can handle and what I can’t. Great post and I hope you find more relaxing time when you can. It sounds like it’s well deserved.

  10. Wow, I hadn’t realized a week had went by – really, my head has been spinning… I’m so glad I think things areback on track, some what.

  11. Oh, how I can relate to those feelings, though! thanks for sharing, Iris. A little perspective always help us get back in balance, doesn’t it?

    love you bunches,
    Vicki
